Judge Craig Sorrell Pittman

 

 

Craig Sorrell Pittman, the third of five sons of Dr. John Edwin Pittman and Marjorie Brunson Pittman, was born September 6, 1956, in Enterprise, Alabama. He graduated from Indian Springs School in Birmingham and  Middlebury College in Vermont, where he received his Bachelor of Arts   degree in Political Science with honors in 1978. In 1981 he was awarded a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University. He was admitted to the practice of law in the State of Alabama in 1981 and in the State of Florida in 1982.

After graduating from law school, Judge Pittman clerked for Judge T. Virgil Pittman in the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Alabama in Mobile from 1981-1983. He then practiced law in Mobile with the law firm of Hamilton, Butler, Riddick, Tarlton and Sullivan from 1983-1986. In 1986 he started his own firm which eventually became known as Pittman, Pittman, Carwie and Fuquay. For 19 years he practiced law in the areas of general civil litigation, commercial litigation, admiralty and creditor's rights. Under the administrations of Jeff Sessions and Bill Pryor he served as a Deputy Attorney General and was General Counsel for the Alabama State Docks during the Fob James Administration.

 

Judge Pittman is a member of the Mobile Bar Association, the Maritime Law Association, the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, the Alabama State Bar and the Florida Bar. He has practiced before all state courts in Alabama and Florida and is admitted to practice in the federal courts of Alabama and the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida.

 

Judge Pittman's parents, Dr. J.E. and Marjorie Pittman, reside in Enterprise, Alabama where Dr. Pittman is a retired physician. Judge Pittman's paternal grandfather was a farmer, school board superintendent and county extension agent. His maternal grandfather was an attorney and founder of National Security Insurance Group of Elba Alabama. Both of Judge Pittman's grandfather's served in the Alabama House of Representatives. 

 

Of Judge Pittman's brothers one is a stockbroker in Dothan, a physician in Birmingham,

a horticulturist in Mobile and a tax attorney in Enterprise. His son, Craig, Jr., is a stock

broker in Dothan Alabama. Jennifer and Skylar his daughter and granddaughter reside in

Montgomery where Jennifer attends Huntingdon College. Janet Rich Pittman, Craig's

wife, owns Pittman Communications, Inc. and speaks fluent Spanish. She is the former

chairman of the Republican Party Executive Committee in Mobile. Both Judge Pittman

and his wife Janet are members of Christ Church Cathedral in Mobile.
